George by Alex Gino
In Alex Gino’s inspiring multiple Award winning children’s fiction, Melissa, ten years old, born a boy and originally named “George”, has a dream of playing Charlotte (adaptation of E.B. White’s much loved novel) in her school play, but needs to convince her teacher who thinks she is “George” in Year Four, and believes the role should be “played by a girl”, not even entertaining an audtion. Melissa also hopes the people around her (including her mother) to accept her gender identity as a girl, which she feels is more herself. Could Melissa and Kelly, her best friend, secretly hatch the ultimate plan to make her dream of coming out come true? This story is realistic, anti-bullying, moving, and amusing at the same time, by giving the transgender child their own voice.

For the first time ever, Mosman Library is accepting positive contributions from our own community. Good entries will be released in a compilation which will be permanently added to our Library catalogue, and there will be an opportunity for the authors to read their stories during Storytime on Fridays, as well as receiving their own copy of the compilation. Please email your entry
to: projects@mosmanlibrary.mosmancouncil.nsw.gov.au by the 10th of July. Art entries will be accepted in the form of a scan.
